A passenger plane flying from Dubai, UAE, to Tel Aviv, Israel, was diverted to Saudi Arabia after a fight between pilots, Israeli officials told local media.
According to flight tracking website FlightRadar24, the Flydubai plane, which took off from Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday morning, sent a distress signal two hours later.
A few minutes later, the signal was changed to “hijacked.” But it was later reverted to a normal emergency signal. The plane was carrying about 150 people, most of them Israeli citizens.
The plane, flight number FZ1073, was scheduled to land at Ben-Gurion Airport. But it diverted to Tabuk Airport in northeastern Saudi Arabia after a dispute between pilots, officials said. Citing Israeli officials, media reported that one pilot stabbed the other before taking control of the plane. Passengers on board also told local media that a sharp weapon had been used on the plane. A flydubai spokesman confirmed that “an incident occurred during the flight.”
